Hout Bay is challenging the widely but wrongly held belief that the Hermanus / Walker Bay coastline is the country´s prime whale watching site. Southern Right Whales are regular visitors to Hout Bay, in the winter months, and may be viewed from the breathtakingly beautiful Chapman´s Peak Drive.
On National Marine Day - Friday 2nd November - three whale information boards situated along Chapman´s Peak Drive were unveiled by Patrick Parring, a Director of Entilini. The boards are sponsored by Entilini Concessions, the company which oversees environmental and safety issues along Chapman´s Peak Drive. The boards contain useful and well presented information regarding the Southern Right Whale, its migratory and reproductive habits, and all sorts of other fascinating snippets regarding these much loved giants of the ocean.
