Hout Bay is only 20 minutes from Cape Town, 40 minutes from Cape Town International. The picturesque fishing village offers an array of interesting shops and restaurants. The beach is long, sandy and ideal for children and a number of water sports are available. The busy working harbour has a number of good restaurants serving fresh fish.

Hout Bay was discovered by early Dutch settlers, who sent a party to explore the bay behind Table Mountain. They found a beautiful, heavily wooded valley surrounded by protective mountains. The trees became the main source of timber for ship building and repairs and the valley became known as Houtbaai (meaning "wood bay").
